A new range of machines by Italian CNC specialists Masterwood was unveiled last year in response to a growing demand for greater functionality and improved features.
At Read Veneers we are also keen to meet the increasing demands of our customers and have recently seen an upsurge in demand for a wider variety of machining capabilities, in particular from fit-out specialists and cabinet and furniture makers.
Once we had studied the qualities of the new range from Masterwood, we made the decision to go ahead and invest in their Project 265 CNC machine (pictured above, image courtesy of Masterwood). The subject of much anticipation, the machine was delivered last month and will soon be ready to roll once set-up and expert training are finalised.
A Much Enhanced Offering
As a result of introducing the Project 265, we are now able to present a much enhanced offering to our clients.
The machine allows both horizontal and vertical drilling; it has a vertical router and can take stack tooling up to 250mm diameter, which means we can now offer full machining of traditional mortise and tenon joints. The machine offers vastly improved performance in comparison to our previous CNC; in particular the cut in the Y-axis is greater, which is essential in door production: a key element of our work. Other features of the machine, such as a laser positioning system, mean speed and accuracy are also much enhanced.
The Masterwood CNC Project 265 comes complete with a new version of the long established CAD/CAM software, Master 3D. A full management solution for wood and similar materials, Master 3D offers a swift and simple way for us to work directly with designs for timber and panel components using a numerically controlled machining system.
Supporting Specialist Software
Using MasterDOOR we will now be able to machine and produce full door sets including frames, locks, handles and hinges, ideal for our clients in the fit-out and cabinet making sectors. Aside from MasterDOOR, there are various other software packages available to complement the machine which we will explore in due course and in line with client demand, including Mastercabinet for the machining of cabinetry.
All of this means we can work with any supplied CAD/CAM files to produce exactly what you need, exactly how you need it in a much reduced timeframe and with precision accuracy. In fact, just recently we were able to cut and lip 60 doors in a single day. The next day they were all veneered and ready to despatch. Not a bad turnaround for a fairly substantial order.
